My Ethereal collection of miniature papercuts

ethereal (adjective): extremely delicate and light in a way that seems not to be of this world.

There seem to be a trend for tiny things.
How small can you go in papercutting terms?  I had to give it a try ...
I was tempted to see what I could create with a smaller dimension.   I decided not to use maps to cut but use them as a back ground instead.   I thought that cutting a design so small, the details of the maps would become fuzzy.  I used black paper for the small papercuts which I then set floating in front of a map background relating to it's subject.
These little pieces of artwork are cut by hand and measure approximately 7x4cm (2 3/4 x 1.5 inches)   They are framed floating in a white 11x10cm box frame.

I have to admit to using my brilliant day light with a large magnifying glass for some of these!  You will see why ...

Lets have a closer look!

I love the Paris scene with the small couple getting all romantic, as you do!

Then there is a little bit of London, Brighton, Scotland even India!  Where shall I go next in this mini world?

Getting smaller and smaller!

Fancy trying something new? Come along to one of my Papercutting workshops!

It has been a while since I ran a paper cutting workshop and I know it is still summer but for those who like to get organised and also because the workshops are sometimes filling up fast here are some new dates for the autumn period.
It is, even if I may say so, a lovely afternoon spent learning, practicing and creating as well as eating cakes!
The workshop is a one of session of 3 hours from 1pm to 4pm in the comfort of my house. There is plenty of free parking available and there is a regulars bus stops almost opposite the house.

The early afternoon session means perfect timing for tea/coffee and home made cakes!
I'll run briefly through the history of paper cutting,we will be practicing a few techniques, after which you will be ready to create your own papercut.
You can either use a template or design your own intricate image to cut, ready for framing or mounting on cards at your own leisure.
You may come prepared with ideas, sketches or get inspired from many reference books provided.
All materials and use of specialist tools provided. Maximum of 8 people.  The workshop cost £30.

Email me and let me know if you would like me to reserve a place for you on one of these days and I'll send you a booking form and details for deposit to secure your place.

Artwave 2015

It's been a while since I showed my artwork.
Since Christmas last year, after my "Serendipity" Solo Exhibition at Tunbridge Wells,  I have been taking a little break from papercutting.
But I could not resist the invitation to join Art and Soul at Falmer for the Artwave 2015 (Visual Arts festival for the Lewes district).
So along with some local fellow artists I will be showing my artwork from the 22nd August to the 6th September at the Falmer Village Hall and Church.
It is a lovely village and a wonderful setting, so be sure to make a visit.
I shall be there the last week end and look forward to seeing you!
