Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Tried to make a 2013 shape with our green rope light! It worked well in 2009!

but oh no! the twisted thing would not comply, so made a Christmas tree instead!
Looked fun in the snow!

Waterloo Sunset!

Finally! and I am so pleased with it, I thought I'd share!!!
I have finished my latest papercut on a map of London!
I have called it Waterloo Sunset, after the 1967's song by the Kinks!
I made one twice as big for the Brighton Art Fair in September this year.
I figured that if I was to do anything about London it had to be this year, with all the celebrations we had in 2012!
By the second day of the Brighton Art Fair, it was snatched up by this lovely customer!
It is often like that, I work on a piece for weeks, researching, drawing, choosing the map I am going to use and then the best part for me the cutting and the surprise at the end when it is all done and I lift up my template revealing the colours and patterns of the map on my design, and then it goes before I even have time to enjoy the result!  But I guess that's good!
So for the lovely house I will be showing at for the Brighton Christmas Open House, I thought I would do another one, this is going to be my show piece!.
This time the map I have is half the size but it actually has taken me just as long to cut, especially the little leaves of the oak tree (which is the tree of London apparently!), they did test my patience!
So if you fancy seeing it framed and looking proud come to visit us at 33 Worcester Villas, Hove from 11 to 5pm the first 3 week end of December.

Shoreham Airport celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Central Flying School

Shoreham is a lovely town with many great assets, one of them being the local Airport and of course the Shoreham Art Gallery where I have some of my artwork for sale .
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Central Flying School the airport is putting on a Battle Of Britain Airshow on the 1st -2nd September.
http://www.shorehamairshow.co.uk/
A must visit for RAF enthusiasts and planes connoisseurs!

To show our support, the Shoreham Gallery is putting on a display of aviation art.

I had been planning to make a contribution wondering how I would cut out a plane out of paper etc, when to my delight my husband came across a copy of an old book called Reach For The Sky, depicting the life of Douglas Bader .
The title pleased me and inspired me, so I set out to use my cutting skills in a different way by doing a couple of linocuts!
I had fun printing on pages of this old book, trying to pick the best ones where the text had positive meanings etc.  That was tricky without reading the whole book as time was an issue!
So here are the results, proudly on show in the window of The Shoreham Gallery .

Artwave Lewes 2012 - A Sneak preview!

Today I was thrilled to bits to go to Susan's house in Swanborough, Lewes to set up my artwork for the Artwave festival.
It is the loveliest location with a truly beautiful selection of artwork set in this fantastic house and garden with great views.
It will hard not to purchase a few pieces of art here, but I will definitely be eating a few pieces of cakes with a cup of tea in the garden at least!

Here is a sneak peak at  the artwork Susan has spent the last year or so selecting to create a great show.

Swiss Style

I was commissioned to make two papercuts for a Christmas present this year.
Having lived in Switzerland for many years and a great collectors of swiss papercuts, my Dear Customers' request was to incorporate swiss style on a map of Switzerland.
My Dear Customer had some very specific ideas and requests and provided me with all the ideas, photos  and even a few sketches, so all I had to do was to create up to his expectations!
I am glad to say that he was not disappointed quite the opposite! Phew!
And the new owners, daughter and son in law were quite thrilled too.
So now that Christmas is well past us and there is no risk of spoiling the surprise ...
